On this day….

1952 - Patty Berg scores 64, the best  best competitive round of golf by a woman, en route to four-shot victory in the Richmond Open. Berg, who founded the LPGA in 1950, won more than 60 tournaments, including a record 15 major titles. She was elected to the LPGA Hall of Fame in 1967 and died Sept. 10, 2006.
1959 – Wiffi Smith wins LPGA Tour Betsy Rawls Open; first-place prize money – $997.
1964 – Marilynn Smith wins LPGA Tour Titleholders Championship; first-place prize money – $1,300.
1970 – Harold Henning wins PGA Tour Tallahassee Open Invitational; first-place prize money – $10,000.
1970 – Frank Beard wins PGA Tour Tournament of Champions; first-place prize money – $30,000.
1981 – Beth Solomon wins LPGA Tour Birmingham Classic; first-place prize money – $15,000.
1981 - Tom Watson wins PGA Tour USF&G New Orleans Open; first-place prize money – $63,000.
1992 – Maggie Will wins LPGA Tour Sara Lee Classic; first-place prize money – $78,750.
1992 – Davis Love III wins PGA Tour KMart Greater Greensboro Open; first-place prize money – $225,000.
1998 – Liselotte Neumann wins LPGA Tour Chick-fil-A Charity Championship; first-place prize money – $105,000.
1998 – Trevor Dodds wins PGA Tour Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic; first-place prize money – $396,000.
1998 – Hale Irwin wins Senior PGA Tour Las Vegas Senior Classic; first-place prize money – $210,000.
2009 – Lorena Ochoa wins LPGA Tour Corona Championship; first-place prize money – $195,000.
2009 – Jerry Kelly wins PGA Tour Zurich Classic of New Orleans; first-place prize money – $1,134,000.
2009 – Bernhard Langer and Tom Lehman win Champions Tour Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf; first-place prize money – $225,000.

Nancy Scranton (51) of Centralia, Illinois; three-time winner on LPGA Tour, including then-major 1991 du Maurier Classic  (now CN Canadian Women’s Open when she barely made the cut and then shot 64 in the third round to move into contention.
Ann O’Neill (53) of Toowoomba, Queensland; 1990 Down District Championship.
